There are mainly three methods to update or rectify name of your Aadhaar card. These are online via the self-service portal, by visiting the closest enrolment center and by post.

While updating the name on the Aadhaar card online, a person needs to submit scanned copy of any of the below mentioned documents as the identity proof document:

Who can update Aadhaar card details online?

Only individuals who have registered their Aadhaar with their valid mobile number on UODAI can update their Aadhaar card details online.

Procedure to update name of Aadhaar card online:

Step 1: Visit Go to the https://ssup.uidai.gov.in/ssup/ . Enter the Aadhaar number that you want to update. This will open the AADHAAR card Online Self Service Update Portal.

Step 2: Select the specific detail on the Aadhaar card that you need to update. In this case, choose “name” option in the given list. Now click on the submit button to submit the request for name correction / change / surname change on the Aadhaar card.

Step 3: Verification

In this step, you will be asked to upload self-attested scanned “Proof of Identity” documents for Aadhaar card correction / name change / surname change online.

Once you upload the proper document and submit the duly filled change request form, you will be allotted an Aadhaar card URN or Update Request Number. It is advised to save this number to track the change request status.

How much time does it takes to update name on Aadhaar card?

As per the UIDAI, the total time needed to update the details on the Aadhaar card is ninety days. The update request will get verified by “UIDAI representative”. Once the request gets approved, the updated e-Aadhaar card can be downloaded by clicking on “Download Aadhaar” tab provided on www.uidai.gov.in.

The person will get modified Aadhaar letter at his given address if Name, Date of Birth, Gender and Address, are updated. For any update related to mobile number, or email ID, a person will only receive a notification on his registered email ID or mobile number.
